Prologue

The night is thick with rain, the droplets pelting the pavement like icy needles as they splash in every direction. The air is heavy, thick with the scent of wet asphalt and the distant hum of the city. A figure, drenched and breathless, moves quickly through the streets, her footsteps slapping against the slick ground. She glance over her shoulder, a flicker of fear in her eyes as the sound of distant footsteps echoes ominously behind them.

The rain blurs her vision, drenched clothes clinging to her skin, but still, she push forward, her heart pounding in her chest like a frantic drum. Her legs ache, muscles burning with every stride, but she can't stop. Not now. Not when she is so close to being caught. The terror inside her was too overwhelming to stop her.

The shadow looming behind her, the heavy footsteps, the aggressive tone chanting her name, chasing her like a hunter stalking their prey, forcing her to submit but the horrifying memories which are painted inside her mind are acting like an invisible force to push her forward.

The city is empty, the streets eerily silent, save for the relentless rain and the sound of her ragged breaths. The night is both a refuge and a trap, a place where escape feels impossible, but she won't stop running. Not until she find the safety she desperately need.

Tears of desperation rolled down her cheeks,  mixing with the rain water falling from the sky as she silently prayed to the almighty to save her before something worse happens. She was on the verge of collapsing down yet she still move forward with every ounce of strength.

The girl stood at the edge of alley, leaning against the cold wall, her breath came in uneven bursts, each inhale a sharp reminder of the weight pressing against her chest. Her blurry vision caught the crumpled letter held tightly in her fist, reminding her everything she had lost, everything that has been taken from her. A painful realisation that she had no place to turn, no one left to trust.

The rain fell in heavy sheets, the thunder rumbling like an ominous warning. Sobs escaped her trembling lips as she finds herself lonely with no one by her side to make her feel safe, to help her escape this horrifying situation.

And then in the heavy downpour she heard a voice soft like velvet. Through her blurry gaze she saw a figure standing at a distance, their face hidden under the umbrella. "W-who are you?"

Despite a parched throat, her trembling lips successfully let out these words. The figure stepped ahead, sounds of heels clicked against the cemented path while the heavy wind was relentlessly tugging her long hair, scattering strands in every direction.

"I can help you." The woman said, her tone calm a star contrast to the storm surrounding them.

"Who are you?" The girl repeated, her voice trembling with fear. She has learned long ago not to trust anyone.

The woman's lips curved into a knowing smile.

“Someone who knows what it’s like to lose everything. Someone who can give you a second chance.”

I'll be updating it soon, so stay tuned! Trust me, you won’t want to miss a single chapter.

And of course, don’t forget to vote and comment! A writer’s fuel isn’t just coffee (though that helps too), but your support and reactions. So, keep them coming because if I don’t get my daily dose of encouragement, who knows? Maybe I’ll throw in an even bigger plot twist just for fun. Hehehe!
